Recently I was tasked with redoing all social media for Al Watts, a local businessman who just released a new book called Navigating Integrity.

The goals of the project were to build a reputable online presence for Al and to provide calls to action to purchase his work. The campaign took place across various social media platforms

The three facets of the project related to data were creation, organization, and connection. Content was created in the different platforms where there were previously holes, current data was organized in a more understandable fashion, and the different platforms were connected to one another.

The design portion of the project was focused on creating a comfortable, consistent look that would be appealing but not distracting to the end user.

AlWattsIntegro.com was a custom designed wordpress blog for the client, using their colors and themes. There was a heavy emphasis on dynamic, easily editable content, including the functionality along the right sidebar which allows polls, quotes, and various other things that can be controlled by the client.

Al’s Facebook page needed some work from the ground up. Content was switched up, and these custom facebook landing pages were created. The key with these was to drive people to learn more about Al, contact him, and join a contest, all inside of facebook. These pages added a flair of professionalism because they stand apart from typical facebook pages.

Al’s Twitter was modified to promote a consistent branding effort throughout his sites. Colors were tweaked, and the background was designed according to his standards. There was also a significant amount of training into twitter, it’s purposes, and how it can be best utilized for publicity and user engagement.

Overall, great person and great project to work on! Thanks Al!

Well, I’ve been quite busy myself. Just wrapped up my second to last semester of school a few weeks ago. I’m currently doing an internship at Periscope in their interactive department, working with some sweet people, clients, and tech. I love the crazy opportunities I’ve been given and feel so blessed.

At the end of the school year we had an event called Unified, where all the campus organizations get together for one night. I had the opportunity to make a short video for it, so I got my hands on a Canon 7d (beauttttiful) and just tried to capture what people thought of Christian community.

i feel silly even writing about this, because it’s all the talk of the town, but i wanted to have your attention for a few seconds to talk about the ipad.

why do we all of a sudden have to justify why we need this new technology? every time i mention the ipad i feel as though i need to also throw up a quick elevator pitch on why i need it for a, b, c, d and e reasons. i do have those reasons, but that’s not what i’ll go into.

we don’t need technology until we make ourselves need it; word processors weren’t a near essential element to writing until we made them up, turbotax wasn’t necessary until we saw there was a better way to do taxes. i know this concept is scary to some, but it’s so healthy for technological growth.

i feel the answer to why we need the ipad should be “we don’t know yet,” and that’s what’s exciting to me. anyone who claims to know what we’re getting into with this whole ipad concept is fooling themselves. if you asked the early adopters to computers why they used them, something tells me they wouldn’t say anything about cloud computing or dorm room dance parties, yet they were eventually realized to have these new potentials. basically what i’m saying here is that ipad haters hate dorm room dance parties. but really, in the tech world it’s always been an exponential explosion of people realizing potential through crazy innovative ideas. there’s a slippery slope of computing where we say “hey we did THIS thing, so i bet we can now do this even crazier thing.”

not understanding or realizing the potential of something is no reason to stay away from it. let’s give it a shot and see what we can do with it, and if it’s still “just a really big ipod” in a couple years, you win.

I made this flyer for a bible study in one of the dorms on campus. I just wanted to emphasize (clearly) how all it is talking about God.

I attempted to lead a study in this particular dorm for a few years, and it was a bit difficult to say the least, particularly with the college-aged demographic. I’d go to dorms and talk to students and share my beliefs and try and explain to them where I was coming from. Some would agree with me, some would politely disagree (some not so polite, but I can respect that), and there was another crowd who would smile and nod just long enough for me to leave so they could move on with their lives.

And it was really hard for me.

It’s just really hard because I just know some of these people think I’m silly and that I’m stuck in a fairy tale and out of touch with reality and that ultimately my God is those same things.

My faith and my God are nothing like this.

Don’t you wonder why the world works the way it does? How in the world does it make any sense that we live on an Earth that is so strategically placed that given a few degrees of changed tilt or distance from the sun that we’d be screwed? How absolutely incredible is the sky when you look up at it? We call the sky endless but think it’s silly to suggest a God that’s bigger than us? And we consider ourselves gods?

Sit back and think about where we are right now. Take a moment to look at your hands and feet and how everything works flawlessly. Think about how you were born… your parents and their parents and theirs and theirs and theirs; it all had to work out in such a perfect order for you to come to be. How in the world could we deny that? How foolish are we to think that we have any say in the matter? We’ll follow scientific laws until we’re red in the face, yet attribute our entire existence to immeasurable chance instead of something bigger than us?

These are the kinds of things that I wish people were talking about. It just all doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, so how can you not consider a God who doesn’t “make sense” to the world. We are so incredibly blinded by the day to day that we lose sight incredibly fast.

Please take a second today, regardless of your “beliefs” to take a step outside of yourself and see how absolutely ridiculous this “life” thing is.
